First Edition (SD). Published by Dodd, Mead & Company in 1929. This is the Genuine first edition, not the Grosset photoplay edition. It's extremely rare. The novel was made into a film the following year, 1930. You can see the purple covers in the photos. The purple of the spine is much lightened from the front and rear. The yellow lettering on both the front and on the spine is bright and free of wear. The six edges are in very good shape with two small exceptions, a small bit of rub-through just adjacent to the corner on the front top edge and a small dent/closed tear at the rear top edge, the closed tear on the edge and the indent on the rear cover just below the edge. All four corners are in nice shape with only a tiny bit of rubbing. The rear bottom corner has a small crease just above it. The spine ends are in solid shape, just the typical crinkling. The front cover and spine look very clean. As you can see from the third photo there is a white stain on the rear cover, also one or two smaller, inconspicuous dark spots. The page edges look very clean. The middle page edge is deckled. They did a very good job. The spine has a slight to moderate forward lean, but the book is quite solidly bound. I've scrolled through the pages a good number of times. I found only one instance where there was a space between two facing pages. It's between the front side of the last page and the rear side of the next-to-last page. Both pages are solidly bound from top to bottom. The covers are very solidly bound, nicely tight. The inside covers and endpapers (I've provided a photograph) form a very appealing green and white design. The pages are exceptionally clean. There are two small light spots on the title page and two small, light spots on the blank page facing it. I don't think I saw another spot anywhere else in the book. The condition of the pages is very good. I saw a few edge nicks, nothing significant, a crinkle here or there, very little, and a light, vague semi-crease at some bottom corners. I didn't see any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. NO attachments of any kind. No writing anywhere. You can check out the Wikipedia page of the movie. Here's the first sentence: 'Sarah and Son is a 1930 pre-Code American drama film directed by Dorothy Arzner. The screenplay by Zoe Akins was adapted from Timothy Shea's novel of the same name. It stars Ruth Chatterton, Fredric March, Gilbert Emery, and Doris Lloyd. It was filmed at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles and released by Paramount Pictures.' Ms. Chatterton earned an Academy Award Nomination for Best Actress. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 004159
