Only marking is former owners attractive Ex Libris plate. 613 photographic illustrations including 62 in color (mostly full-page plates, a few double-page). A lavish history which traces the history of the sea and ships through the ages to 1875, particularly the part played by the Anglo-Saxons. The work begins with the discovery of Britain down through Spanish and Dutch naval wars and on to exploration and discovery, pirates, privateers, slavers, and trade, including ship design.
