Beschreibung
[nice fresh copy, minimal shelfwear, vintage price sticker (from San Francisco department store The White House) on rear pastedown; jacket shows light surface wear (mostly to rear panel), minor crinkling at spine ends, tiny tears at base of spine and at top rear corner]. (color frontispiece, B&W drawings) A "thrilling story of the world of woods and swamps, of lake and stream, of mountain crags and hidden caves, as absorbingly interesting as the most exciting human drama." Our intrepid hero is "Red Alder," "the chief of a brave and shrewd beaver tribe," who had also been the protagonist of the author's previous adventure in this vein, "The Rise of the Red Alders," published in 1928 and lauded on the jacket flap as The Outstanding Animal Book of the Year (although it's unmentioned who dubbed it thus). At any rate, I gather that Red is a pretty tough customer -- he bares his teeth quite often in the book's illustrations, while taking on all manner of wildcats, weasels, eagles and other predatory types. Lou Rogers (aka Lou Rogers Wehlitz) was apparently a North Carolina author, although I've so far been unable to come up with any significant background on her. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 19485
