1st edition. ppviii 271 + 24-page October 1892 publisher's catalogue at end. folding map. 39 full-page illustrations from photos, plus text illustrations. scattered foxing, mostly light, but slightly heavier in places. stitching weak at one point, with cracking to the spine and one loose gathering. in the original decorative cloth, lightly rubbed to the spine and with a little wear to corners and head and tail of spine. a scarce account of a voyage into the Arctic Circle and to Spitzbergen by two English gentlemen with little knowledge of the sea. They chartered the three-masted whaling schooner 'Traveller' from Peterhead and and set sail in May 1888 with a crew of fourteen for a five month voyage. Although primarily a hunting expedition, with an obscene number of creatures dispatched by the sporting duo, Clutterbuck's account includes interesting detail about life on board and the perils of an Arctic voyage.
