Beschreibung
Stated First Printing. Signed and inscribed by the author on the first front end paper. The inscription is a little difficult to entirely decipher, it is dated Nov. 4/1936. You can see the covers in the photos. They are reasonably clean. The spine is toned/tanned. The red lettering on the front and spine is in good shape. The corners look pretty good. The front top edge has a little bit of rubbing. There are bumps/creases at the front covers corners and at the rear covers bottom corner. The spine ends have a little bit of wear, a few tiny tears, and the bottom edge has a small strip of the top layer of the cloth missing. The top page edge is a light brown. The middle page edge is deckled or rough-cut. They did a good job. The book has a very slight forward lean. It is quite solidly bound from cover to cover. The covers are nicely bound as well. The pages are in excellent condition. They are very clean. Scrolling through I saw two speck-sized spots, and two small spots, all in the blank margin. There's very little by way of creasing, no turn-down corners or placeholder creases. There's a teeny tiny tear off the outer edge of two consecutive pages, maybe 1/16th of an inch. There are six small stamped numbers and letters (something a bookseller would have done) on the rear side of the last rear end paper. There are no other markings. There are no attachments of any kind. And the author's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. 'For more than three decades Mr. Duffus was one of the most versatile and prolific writers devoting himself primarily to journalism. Working for the New York Times, his writing subjects ranged from news to Sunday magazine articles, from editorial-page verse and prose to travel-page pieces and book reviews. The book reviews were usually by him, but there were also often comments on his own books, both fiction and nonfiction, by other reviewers. In 1940, Mr. Duffus was named a governor of the P.E.N. Club. In 1957, he was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.'. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 003806
