Corners and spine ends bumped, else Very Good, internally clean and sound. Collection of religious poetry published nearly fifty years after the author's death at the premature age of 36, in 1866. Born in Herrick, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, in 1829, James Durand left the family homestead at the age of fifteen for New Orleans where he was educated and later employed as a bookkeeper until the outbreak of the Civil War. From 1861 until his death he held a position with the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. before succumbing to ill health after the war.
