Very clean and bright dark green original cloth binding with gold gilt letters and straight boards with sharp corners; slight scuffs to extremities; flap shadow to end papers; no previous owner's marks but 1953 gift dedication to top of ffep; very clean and tight text block with no spotting or sunning, with publisher's dark green stain to top edge unfaded. Dust jacket condition: Good: small losses to spine tips not affecting letters and small loss to bottom edge of verso; very small closed tear to top edge of front panel; largely closed tears to flap bends (see images); neatly price clipped. Colonel Maurice Buckmaster, commander of the SOE, throws fascinating light on the adventurous day-to-day occupations of men and women 'in the field', behind the German lines in occupied France. Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A fair first edition copy with some lower edge spine damage which is frayed and torn (1cm). There is gutter cracking opposite the title page, exposing the netting. Also, there is a WH Smith library bookplate inside the front cover. Internally the book is rather good with clean pages with just a slight dusting of spotting. There's a slight forward lean to the spine.
