Possibly Bernard Ellis of Leicester, son of John Shipley Ellis, a leading industrialist and entrepreneur. Bernard Ellis was the president of the Leicester Lit and Phil Society in the years 1916-17. Illustrated, with a frontispiece of HMS Druid, one plate, several vignettes and a folding map to the rear. Collated, complete. Written by William Kennedy, a Royal Navy officer who eventually became the Commander-in-Chief of the Nore. This book explores Kennedy's time as the commander of the Druid and as senior officer on the Newfoundland Coast. In the original blue binding. Externally, sound, with heavy rubbing to the extremities and to the joints. Rear joint is tender with the hinge tender. Front hinge is tender after first sixteen pages. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, Bernard Ellis. Their plate to the recto of front endpaper too. Binding is tender in places, otherwise generally firmly bound. Good.
