Folio portfolio. Casing VG, with staining and spotting to cover, light general wear. One inner flap missing, one detached. Contents VG, with soiling and wear to title page, and edge wear to a few plates, not nearly affecting images. Complete with title page, portrait of A.B. Frost, a bi-folium table of contents, a six-page introduction by Frank R. Stockton, and all fifty-three plates, protected by tipped-on sheets of tissue. Arthur Burdett Frost (1851-1928) was, in addition to being a prolific illustrator and comic artist, renowned for his realistic hunting and fishing prints. This portfolio gathers together much of his best work. Aside from hunting and fishing images, such as Quail Shooting Four Barrels and Four Birds and Fishing for Striped Bass on the New Jersey Coast, the plates depict the sports of golf, bicycling, skating, and more. Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Cloth Portfolio. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall. [2], 6p. + only 41 of 53 plates (12 missing). A good copy, the green outside of the portfolio is in very good condition including the pictorial front cover which shows a colored hunting picture by A. B. Frost, the inside flaps of the back cover are somewhat worn (their function was to hold the portfolio flaps in place), the plates themselves are in good to very good condition, some showing a little to some wear in the margins; each plate has a paper sheet attached at the inner margin which gives the title of the plate, all of these sheets are present, but the sheet in front of A. B. Frost's self portrait is partial. Each plate is in black-and-white and measures 16 1/2" x 11 1/2". Nearly all of the golf prints are lacking. The two preliminary pages which list the plates and the six preliminary pages which are a biography of A. B. Frost by Frank Stockton are present. Size: Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall.
