Beschreibung
The first edition, second issue of Graham Greene's first commercially successful novel. The first edition, second issue of this work; the character is referred to as Mr. Quin Savory on pages 77, 78, 82, 98, and 131, rather than 'W. C. Savory' as he was referred in the first impression. The first issue of the novel was suppressed by Heinemann in response to J.B. Priestley's threat of libel due to his belief that the character of "Q.C. Savory" was too obviously a caricature of himself. 'Stamboul Train' was the second significant novel published by Greene, taking place on a train journey from Ostend to Istanbul. A notable novel, it's described as melodramatic and thrilling, written to please the public after a couple of unsuccessful novels.Greene was one of the most popular authors of the twentieth century, known for his works 'Brighton Rock', 'The End of the Affair'.With the bookplate of Margaret Buskell, dated 1932, to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Light shelf wear to back strip tail, with bump to back strip head. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Front hinge strained, and slightly tender. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright. Light spotting throughout, with instances of foxing to first and last few leaves. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 915F6
