First UK Edition. Publisher's pale yellow-grey cloth with heavy dark-red lettering to the front board and spine. 281 pages + 8 page publisher's catalogue at the rear of the book. Map-style front end-papers of the Kent countryside between Lydden and Frythe with inset a plan of the North part of Saltmarshe works. Very good plus (light pushing at the spine tips and mild foxing to the fore-edge) but overall a clean copy). There is a Printer's Code at the rear of the book (535) that refers to the date of the publisher's catalogue (May 1935). This copy pre-dates the Printer's Code mentioned in Cooper & Pike 835. In the VERY RARE first issue D/W priced 7s 6d net to the inside flap (as called for) The D/W is pretty much complete; there are several, un-important closed tears that do not detract from what is a very nice, collectible copy. Furthermore, the back panel is beautifully clean and bright. Great cover art of the tunnel into which the train disappeared on the front panel; the spine shows a bespectacled man looking down on another man lying under railway sleepers with a telephone on the rail (Cooper & Pike).
