Beschreibung
First edition, signed with short inscription by surviving expedition member Steve Marts and by mountaineer Dee Molenaar who did the maps. In 1974 160 climbers from various countries arrived at the Pamirs on the Soviet-Chinese border. The author, Bob Craig, was also an expedition member. This was one of the largest groups of climbers ever and none of the Americans had ever climbed the mountains. By the end of the climb, however, the entire team of eight Russian women climbers and seven others had died. The late Steve Marts, a Northwest climber with successful climbs in the Cascades, Yosemite and Europe, was one who survived; he had been chosen to represent the American Alpine Club. Well illustrated in color and with black and white maps by Dee Molenaar. Hardcover, with original jacket, 223 pages. Marts' signature is on the front blank endpaper and Molenaar's is at the bottom of one of his maps -- this is an actual signature, not a facsimile. Very good condition.
