The Scottish author, Helen Bannerman, married a doctor in the Indian medical services and lived in India for over thirty years. She wrote many books for children based around the Indian culture and environment of her time. Original green cloth boards with illustration of the main character on the upper board. Darkened spine. Wear to the spine ends and rubbed spine colour. Marks on front cover some of which is over the illustration. Stamp of "Higgenbotham & Co, Madras & Bangladesh, an Indian publisher of the time. Ink inscription " To Amy on her 6th Birthday from her father" on the front free page dated 3.7.03. The contents are clean with only a few spots of foxing throughout.
