First thus - the edition published by International Publishers, New York. The book was originally published by Boni and Liveright, New York in 1919, and in the UK by the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1926, and then re-issued by Martin Lawrence in hardback in 1932. The printers page states the original (1919) and renewed (1934) copyright details, and a printer's code '65'. This copy retains the uncommon original printed dustwrapper, but please note there is some loss to the spine of the dustwrapper, and some tape reinforcing on the outside. ***Very good in rust-red cloth-covered boards with black titles to the spine. The boards are generally clean, but there is some fading to the area of the lower spine where the dustwrapper has been chipped. The head and tail of the spine are slightly creased, and some creasing to the top and bottom edges of the back board. Corners quite sharp - the bottom corners just slightly bumped. The edges of the page block are quite clean with no foxing. Interior pages are really clean. No inscriptions. Spine tight. ***In the original thin and fragile dustwrapper which is fairly complete but which does have some loss to the lower portion of the spine [please see scans]. The dustwrapper has been top corner clipped, but retains the original printed price of $2.50 on the lower corner. The spine of the dustwrapper is just slightly browned. Please note that there is tape reinforcing to the exterior of the dustwrapper. ***192 mm x 130 mm. 371 pages including 58 pages of Appendices at the back of the book. ***Contents: Foreword by V. I. Lenin, Introduction by Granville Hicks, Author's Preface, Notes and Explanations; Chapters: Background; The Coming Storm; On the Eve; The Fall of the Provisional Government; Plunging Ahead; The Committee for Salvation; The Revolutionary Front; Counter-Revolution; Victory; Moscow; The Conquest of Power; The Peasant's Congress; Appendices. ***'Ten Days That Shook the World (originally published in the USA in 1919) was written by the American journalist and socialist John Reed about the October Revolution in Russia in 1917, which Reed experienced first hand. Reed followed many of the prominent Bolshevik leaders closely during his time in Russia. John Reed died in 1920, shortly after the book was finished, and he is one of the few Americans buried at the Kremlin Wall Necropolis in Moscow, a site normally reserved only for the most prominent Soviet leaders.' [Wiki] ***'This book shows concretely how the Bolshevik Party organized and prepared for the October Revolution of 1917, and particularly the role which Lenin and Stalin played during this momentous year. Speeches, articles, letters, reports by Lenin and Stalin describe the care with which the Bolsheviks planned each step, taking into account the multiple factors involved, overcoming each obstacle and taking advantage of every historic opportunity. One of the most revealing aspects of the volume is the account of the relations between Lenin and Stalin on the one hand, and Zinoviev, Kamenev, Bukharin, Piatakov and others involved in the treason trials. At one crucial point, on the "eve of October," Lenin branded Zinoviev and Kamenev as "strikebreakers," calling for their expulsion from the Party. At another critical turning point - at the Sixth Congress of the Bolshevik Party - with Lenin in hiding, Stalin took the helm and delivered the main reports, castigating the proponents of Trotskyism.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***The International Publishers edition of "Ten Days that Shook the World", published in 1934. Whilst the book itself is not uncommon, copies in the original dustwrapper are hard to find now. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. ***.
