I got started selling old books on eBay with illustrated children s books (following the lead of my then mentor DBRareBooks a well-known expert seller of this genre) and still have many listed. I am very pleased to offer one of the nicest and scarcest I have seen in a while. Please find: The Tale of the Long-Eared Bat with verse by Horace T. Barnaby and illustrations by Fern Bisel Peat. This largish hard cover book (9 x 11 inches unpaginated but about 64 pages) was published by the Saalfield Publishing Company of Akron Ohio dated 1929 and I believe the First Edition. The book is bound in nicely patterned and color paper boards with a black cloth quarter spine and a title panel on the front cover. The book is amply illustrated by the Artist with four magnificent full-page color plates (please see the photos) and her b&w decorations on every page. Condition: This book is in very good condition better than any of the four on offer online. The hard covers show edge wear and bumping to the corners and spine tips. The cover decorations are still bright and very attractive. Inside a former child owner has left his penciled name on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book (and probably can be erased). The pages and plates are all clean and bright and the color plates especially presentable. There is no real toning or foxing at all in this vintage book.
