First UK Edition in Second Issue D/W priced 4s 6d net to the inside flap. Original red boards with black spine lettering. A VG copy (slight fading in places to the spine and front board (possibly caused by damp) in a D/W that is creased to the head of the spine and with surface soiling to the back panel. The D/W is priced 4s 6d net to the inside flap (whereas the first issue was priced at 7s 6d net). Superb period cover art by G P Micklewright. NB: we suspect the Cheap Edition from 1940 used the sheets from the 1939 first edition then changed the D/W, re-pricing it to 4s 6d net and adding "The Master Mind of Mars" to the list of "Martian Romances" and adding "Tanar of Pellucidar" to the list of other stories. This information has only recently come to to our attention following a first edition in first issue (7/6 net) D/W coming into our possession. Photographs/scans available upon request.
