A textbook in The Macmillan Readers series of 1951-2, estimated for first or second grade students, but this title is the 3rd reader following the titles "Splash" and "Tuffy and Boots". This title introduced more than twice (81) new words the earlier titles each introduced. An artistic team approach was used to create this book and continuity of the series. This title had 3 authors and over 6 illustrators. The three authors also collaborated on titles other than The Macmillian Reader titles. Arthur I. Gates (1890-1972) was Professor of Educational Psychology, Columbia University, New York City. He was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame in 1978. Miriam Blanton Huber (1889-1974) was a book author of over two dozen children books. Frank Seely Salisbury (1885-1966) was also a book author of over a dozen children books. 6 Illustrators listed: * Charles Payzant and Associates * Helen Hansen * Sylvia Holland * Janet Page * Basil Davidovich * Ernest Terrazas This copy retired from a New Mexico state sponsored free textbooks for school districts program. Markings in marker on front & spine, ink stamped ownership on front paste-down, but no other markings found. Hardcover has red cloth boards with yellow & black lettering and designs, but no DJ. Corners have cloth worn through. Interior is tight, seldom but thoroughly handled with no other extraneous marks, however, top corner of title page torn-off. Copyright 1951.
