In the publisher's original, full cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. A collection of detective short stories by Dorothy L. Sayers, including two stories featuring her popular character, 'Lord Peter Wimsey', and others featuring, 'Montague Egg'. The book's title is taken from the first story in the book, which unravels the murder case of a poisoned dentist. Dorothy L. Sayers was an English crime writer and poet best known for her mystery novels, and for her character, 'Lord Peter Wimsey'. She is considered one of the four, 'Queens of Crime', alongside Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham and Ngaio Marsh. The half title page is present. With the previous owner's gift inscription, dated 1939, to the front free endpaper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent with light shelf wear to the edges. Light handling marks to the boards. The odd spot and handling mark to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Previous owner's gift inscription to the front free endpaper. The original, unclipped dust wrapper is in smart condition. Shelf wear and chipping to the edges with some loss to the spine. A closed tear of about 1.5 inches to the upper spine has been repaired with tape. Spine is darkened. Age-toning to the panels. Marks to the panels with ink marks on the rear panel. Internally, binding slightly strained towards the centre, but otherwise firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise bright and clean with the odd spot throughout. Spotting to the fore-edge.
