Beschreibung
In English. Presumed first printing of the first edition. Complete in two volumes. 11 x 8.75 inches. Bound in black cloth, with crisp silver-stamped design to the front boards and lettering to the spines. Unbumped spine heads and tails, and with sharp corners. Text blocks firmly bound in. Handsomely illustrated map pastedowns and endpapers. With 367 and 201 numbered pages, including tables, bibliography and index pages, all on crème-colored stock. Both volumes profusely illustrated in B&W, with numerous full-page plates. Vol. II reproduces approximately 585 sets of marks, primarily for silver. An immensely clean interior. Either unread or very gently read. No stains, stampings or underlining noticed. No dust jackets, [as issued?]. Housed in a sturdy, red paper-covered slipcase, with black and silver title label to the spine. Scarce. Very Good Plus with Very Good Plus slipcase. 7 lbs. 8 oz. The two volume boxed set is an excellent pictorial reference to French silver and its marks from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Note: This is not the 1993 reprint by Alan Wofsy Fine Arts.
