Although picture book in format, this book runs to nearly 100 pages and contains a pretty substantial and complex story. It is certainly best read aloud by an adult who can explain the concepts and moral lessons of the story. But hey, it's about four cute kittens, so how much attention will you pay to moralistic content? Illustrations are lovely. They vary from vignettes to double page spreads, mostly in grey tones but occasionally with one or two secondary colors. The whole thing is quite charming. Not much to be discovered about the author or the illustrator, except that I have seen this artist listed as "Jean Lamont Dell" so there could well be an author/illustrator connection here! There is an inscription on front endpaper and edges are slightly browned, but a very good copy indeed in a good plus, slightly browned dust jacket with general edgewear and nicks, a creased tear with small loss at base of front panel, partly repaired with tape, and a 2" by 1" area of loss at top of front panel. Still looks pretty good, and this is a scarce book in the dust jacket. And it's about four cute kittens, don't forget.
