Hardback. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. A poetry anthology and collection of memoirs by Robert Bridges, who was Poet Laureate from 1913 to 1930. The first editions of these two works uniformly bound in the publisher's original blind-stamped paper boards, with the original unclipped dust wrappers. A glassine wrapper is also included to 'New Verse'. Ink inscription to the front free end paper of 'New Verse', dated 1927. Robert Bridges (1844-1930) achieved literary fame only late in life, and was Poet Laureate from 1913 to 1930. His poems reflect a deep Christian faith, and he is the author of many well-known hymns. In this set are his poetry anthology 'New Verse Written in 1921', and his book of memoirs of the poets Digby Mackworth Dolben (1848-1867) and Richard Watson Dixon (1833-1900), and the philologist and lexicographer Henry Bradley (1845-1923) , who succeeded James Murray as senior editor of the Oxford English Dictionary. In the publisher's original paper boards, with the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, boards are in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, though many are uncut to 'Three Friends'. Dust wrappers are a little soiled with some creasing to the extremities, but are otherwise smart. Fine. book.
