Each letter of the alphabet, and its accompanying emblematic imagery, is playfully illustrated in blue, magenta, yellow, and black. Most of the letters, in both image and verse, refer to a children's literary tale or rhyme; for example, G is for Gulliver's Travels, Q is for the Queen of Hearts, and Y is for Yankee Doodle. Others cite animals, for example, the elephant and the zebra, and C depicts Charlie Chaplin. The resulting compendium is an insightful, if accidental, view into media popular among children in the 1920s. The verses which accompany Sarg's playful illustrations are by Anne Stoddard (born 1880).** Two names are written on the "This Book Belongs To" page, the first being Judith Dana Walton, 1926. She was the daughter of James and Dorothy Dana Walton, from Wisconsin, and the sister of Marcia Dana Walton (1920-2007).
