The true first edition, first printing of Steinbeck's first commercially successful novel and the beginning of his long association with Pascal Covici. Tight binding. Noticeable foxing to page edges, covers, and pages near the front and end of book. Wear and light fraying to heel of spine, minor wear elsewhere. The half title page has apparently been lost or torn out and a new half title tipped in. This page was placed with the wrong edge in and hence the "Tortilla Flat" wording faces the title page rather than the front of book. I have owned this book for many years and only recently noticed this issue when I was comparing with another first edition. A careful observation shows that the new half title page is slightly smaller than all the other pages in the book, probably transplanted from a reprint. Note we are talking about the half title and not the all-important title/copyright page, which is original. Despite this defect and the others listed, it is a true first edition, first printing and comes with a fine facsimile dust jacket. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000636
