Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is an intriguing look at the ancient Greek tragedy Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus. Prometheus Bound is part of a trilogy of Greek tragedies, the only surviving one. It is generally accepted that the author wrote this play in the context of Greek political and philosophical thought of the 5th century BCE. The themes explored in the play deal with the eternal struggle between the wills of the gods and humans, the nature of punishment, and the limits of human endurance. The author's ideas on these subjects are presented through the powerful story of Prometheus, a god who defies the gods to bring fire to humanity, and is subsequently punished by being eternally chained to a rock and having his liver eaten every day by an eagle. Through Prometheus' suffering, the author delves into what it means to be human, reminding us of humanity's strengths, weaknesses, and enormous capacity to both inflict and endure pain. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781334287602_0
