Edition originale rare de ce grand livre fondateur de la psychiatrie moderne, contenant en détail l'exposé des méthodes d'humanisation du traitement des aliénés. Pinel les détacha de leurs chaînes et les confia à des médecins spécialisés. Devenu médecin-chef de la Salpêtrière en 1795, il y forma une génération de psychiatres dont le plus célèbre fut Esquirol.
