Reid; for the Author, and A. Donaldson; sold by A. Millar et al., London, 1762. First edition. The author s first book, and one of the most important Scottish agricultural treatises of the 18th century. Dickson (1721-76), was a clergyman in Dunse with a strong interest in the techniques of farming. The text here is divided into four parts: on vegetation, tillage, manures, and soil. The underlying principle which runs throughout the book is that English works on agriculture were ill-suited to the soil and climate of Scotland.
