The first hand account by Henry H. Hornsby, Jr. (1923-1989) of his service in the 777th Field Artillery Battalionin, an all black unit of the U.S. forces in WWII. Includes many interesting and engaging photographs, albeit poorly reproduced and grainy. From the jacket flap: "The 777th Field Artillery battalion was on e of the few Negro Units (White officers) to actively engage the enemy in Germany 1944-45. It was the first Negro unit to enter Germany in World War II, and was the first field artillery battalion of the XVI Corps Ninth Army to reach the Rhine river and fire their 4 1/2 inch guns across. They were among the first troops to cross the Rhine river and rout the Nazis, who had been well fortified there."
