A very scarce, first edition of Edward Lively's historical and religious commentary on the seventy weeks mentioned in Daniel 9: 24-7. In the contemporary vellum binding. This work inspired debate among sixteenth century theologians. This work offers evidence of Lively's breadth of scholarship, and his attitude towards Hebraic tradition of exegesis. In this work Lively analyses the seventy weeks in Daniel 9: 24-27 and seeks to understand if it is to merely be understood as a historical event, or if Daniel's weeks can be applied to the contemporary era.It is in this work that Lively stresses the important contribution of non Christian writers such as Pliny, Horace and Herodotus in understanding The Bible. Contemporary inscription to the title page 'C E Rowley'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Loss to the gutter of F4, not affecting the text.
