Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. "Of course a shitty little toy plane drops like this!" I say, "It's just an air pocket. Don't worry," I add softly when I see the fear in his eyes. We drop again. Farther this time. Someone screams. Pasje grabs my hand; I reach for his. Pitch-black . Early on November 14, 1992, Annette Herfkens, one of the few female Wall Street traders at the time, boarded a plane in Ho Chi Mihn City with her fiance, Pasje. After months of working apart, the young couple was finally headed for a romantic getaway on the coast of Vietnam. Six minutes before landing, the plance lost altitude and crashed along a mountain ridge in the remote Vietnamese jungle. What follows is an incredible story of survival, mystery, and the endurance of spirit: Critically wounded, Annette describes how she endured eight days alone in the jungle with only rainwater to sustain her. It is there that she discovers an incredible acuity for life, while being at the verge of death. Turbulence is the heart-breaking story of her unlikely survival among the wreckage . and what happened afterwards. In 2001, years after her rescue, Annette faced another heartache when her eighteen-month-old son Maxi was diagnosed with autism. As she weathered the challenges of motherhood, Annette often called upon the profound insights she learned during those eight days in the jungle, viewing every turbulent event in her life with unflinching optimism. But mysteries still lingered, and in 2006 Annette returned to the Vietnamese mountaintop where the crash happened to seek the truth. A keen observer, Annette writes with frank insight and wit about loss, love, resilience, and spirituality in a fresh, down-to-earth manner. Her book gives us an unforgettable perspective into the mind and heart of a true survivor." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.
