Jackson was General Agent of Education in Alaska at time of publication. This comprehensive report is an account of the management of domesticated reindeer from Siberia to western Alaska as a possible solution to First People's chronic food shortage. The proposal was first suggested by Captain Michael A. Healy, an officer in the United States Revenue Cutter Service. The President Theodore Roosevelt dedication of St. Lawrence Island to a US reindeer station is covered in this report. One photo plate shows a reindeer being hoisted on the US Revenue Cutter Bear. Contains rich anthropological and natural science information. The photos, especially those showing Siberian First People at Baron Korf Bay, are particularly good. Scarce.
