Lavender cloth covers are mostly clean, with black ink text and illustration. Boards show some wear, edgewear. Corners are scuffed. See photos. Spine has black text and is sunned, with bumped ends. Binding is secure. Decorated end papers/ pastedowns have a few pencil notes. Frontispiece is present. Illustrations, full page color plates, are bright and clear. Interior is gently age-toned, more so at margins, exhibits some smudges. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. Text block edges are foxed. See photos.** PS2024.0820** 244 pages. 6 x 9 inches** A very good copy of this First US Edition (undated but circa 1923), a slightly abridged reissue of In Powder and Crinoline (Hodder & Stoughton, 1913). A collection of fairy tales with sixteen stunning full page (not tipped in) color plates by Kay Nielsen (1886-1957) in Art Nouveau style. This edition retains the details found in the earlier volume, including the ornamental text framing on every page. Most important, Kay Nielsen's highly stylized princes and princesses are present in all their brilliant detail.** Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch (1863-1944) was an English critic, writer, and compiler of anthologies. Among these were three collections of fairy tales, the third of which is this volume.
