Very good example of this attractive book. Alexandre Dumas, père (French for "father", akin to Senior in English), born Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, was a French writer, best known for his historical novels of high adventure making him one of the most read French authors in the world. Many of his novels, including The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask, and The Vicomte de Bragelonne were serialized. Dumas also wrote plays and articles, and was a prolific correspondent. This tale begins in 1809 with Napoleon returning to Paris from Spain and receiving updates from his ministers. Then, Napoleon is on to Germany to lead his armies against Austria - once again - in the campaign that would result in the Battle of Wagram. Meanwhile, in Germany, we are introduced to two twin brothers, Louis and Paul Richard, Lieutenants in the French Army, and a young German student, Frederick Stilts, and his fiancée Margaret. Frederick Stilts is involved in an anti-French conspiracy of German nationalist students, and attends a meeting in which the students plot to assassinate Napoleon.
