In den Warenkorb legenFirst Edition of Iris Murdoch's famous novel 'The Unicorn' Murdoch's seventh novel, 'The Unicorn ' follows the young governess, Marian Taylor, as she takes residence in the isolated country house, Gaze Castle. Discussing Christianity and philosophy, this novel reflects the authors own interest in the philosophical and most notably the works of Plato. With prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper 'Julian Andrews'. Possibly the same Julian Andrews, head of the British council, who is referred to in Iris Murdoch's letters. Iris Murdoch was a British novelist and philosopher, born in Ireland. Primarily her novels focus on themes of morality, spirituality and sexuality. A prominent philosopher, she is now increasingly accredited for her work in the field of philosophy, most notably her work on the reinterpretation of Aristotle and Plato, as well as her discussions of moral philosophy. In her lifetime Murdoch wrote 26 novels, as well of a series of short stories and several philosophical papers. In the original cloth binding and held in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart with bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Bumping to the front board, to the tail edge. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. A few light spots to the front and rear boards. Minor spotting to the foredge. Previous owner's inscription 'Julian Andrews' on the front endpaper. Offsetting to the rear endpaper. Dustwrapper has chipping to the head and tail of the spine, resulting in loss. Minor chipping to the rear of wrap at the head. Rubbing to the spine and the edges. A few small tidemarks to the spine. Offsetting and minor spotting internally to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
