Lavishly illustrated throughout with 64 plates in heliogravure, this scholarly work on the life of François Rabelais, the celebrated French Renaissance writer, physician, humanist, and monk brings to life the fascinating author of Gargantua and Pantagruel. Sporadic soiling to slipcase. Binding rubbed along edges and joints. Ex-library bookplate on inside of front cover (Harvard's Library of Lowell House), and blind stamp at upper margin of title page (not affecting lettering). Minor age-toning along paper margin.
