Beschreibung
Viper in the Fist by Herve Bazin 1951 1st US edition published by Prentice Hall HCDJ This novel, the author's most famous, is also largely autobiographical. As in all of his work, Hervé Bazin gives the reasons for his hatred and his fight against all family and social oppressions. Vipère au poing tells of the merciless struggle waged by Brasse-Bouillon, alias Jean Rezeau, as well as his brothers, against their mother, an odious, calculating and violent stepmother. Folcoche, as her children call her, reigns with authority over a well-meaning Angevin family, not skimping on lashes, bullying and humiliations. But Brasse-Bouillon is smart, lively and far-sighted. He confronts his mother by setting her in turn the traps that will help him get the better of her. In the first degree, the book has an indisputable humor which marks the spirits (unforgettable Folcoche, paragon of wickedness!). But, it is above all a child's cry and the denunciation of a certain model of education which for a long time made the heyday of French families. For its author, it remains forever a trauma and a failure, I am barely entering life and, thanks to you [my mother] I no longer believe in anything, nor in anyone . Whoever did not believe in his mother, that one will not enter the kingdom of the earth. --Stellio Paris some jacket wear nad tear, dj stuck down at the ends, partial sticker on front, clean and tight BBDJ.
