This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. A scarce title. Bright orange cloth binding, blindstamped on the front cover with a floral design and a sailing ship. Titling on the spine in black and gilt. Clean text; 274 pages. Frontis illustration and twenty others within by the author. Translation by Desmond Ivo Vesey. Illustrated endpapers. The First Edition and the Book Club Edition are often confused, as they both have a stated "First Edition,' and are substantially the same book. Both are bound in identical covers; however, the First has an orange topstain while the BCE's are uncoloured. The dustjackets are different, and this one is priced while the other is not. Both are quite attractive books, and Loederer's artwork is spectacular. The corners here are mildly bumped, and with a slight lean.There is a tiny bookseller label on the front paste-dowm. The dustjacket is unclipped ($2.75). It shows edgewear and chips to the head and foot of the spine; spine is slightly faded and there are some olfd cello tape repairs.
