Beschreibung
First edition. Dust jacket art by Fridolf Johnson. The first novel by Browne is an historical fantasy featuring Tharn, a Cro-Magnon man who fends for himself in nature and the jungle, rescues a slave cave girl, fights animals, enemies, dwarfs, and neanderthals, becomes a leader, and has a son. Browne, who is highly regarded as a top-of-the-line hard-boiled literary mystery author, was also an early pulp and magazine editor, a Hollywood TV script-writer, including 'Rockford Files', 'Maverick', and 'The Virginian'; and a film screenwriter including the film 'Capone'. Slight age-toning to the inner hinge areas as usual, very short tear at the upper edge of the front inner hinge, tiny spot to the inner corner of the upper page edges, a touch of fading at the lower spine end, else very good plus in sturdy bold-cranberry linen with gilt embossed titles to the front cover and to the spine, upper page edges red; in a good to very good dust jacket with slight fading to the spine panel, large chips and rubbing the lower spine end area, tears, chips and creases to the shelf-edges and flap folds, two small creased holes to the upper spine end; original printed $2.00 price still intact to the front inner flap, (usually found price-clipped with the publisher's stamped-on lowered price of $1.00).
