Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

First printing. A ground-breaking and very interesting anthology of twenty-nine essays that (as stated on the dustjacket): 'present women of all races as actors in their own lives and in the history of the American West and locate them in a framework that connects gender, race, and class. In mythic sagas of the American West, the wide western range offered boundless opportunity to a limited cast of white men [but] women's voices were never heard. 'Writing the Range' allows us to hear many long-silenced women: Spanish-Mexican settlers and American Indians on New Spain's northern frontiers; Chinese, Basque, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Slavic, and Irish immigrants; film stars Dolores del Rio and Lupe Velez; Navajos and African Americans who moved to Western cities during World War II; and the activist Mothers of East Los Angeles, who organized to resist environmental dangers to their community.' Among the essays are those on Widows & Land in Colonial New Mexico by Yolanda Leyva; Captivity and Identity in New Mexico 1700-1846 by by James F. Brooks; The Women of Lincoln County 1860-1900 by Darlis Miller; Beyond the Stereotype: Chinese Pioneer Women by Annette White-Parks; Basque Women as Hard Workers by Jeronima Echeverria; Women Cross-dressing in the 19th Century West by Evelyn Schlatter, African American Women Workers in Richmond California and the Impact of World War II by Shirley Ann Wilson Moore; Irish Women in Anaconda, Montana by Laurie Mercer and many more. Photographs. Index and selected bibliographies -including both a general bibliography and others by ethnicity - on African American women, Asian American, etc. 656 pp. Fine in fine dust jacket (a new copy.).

Shop-Beschreibung

Bookfever.com - the name used by Volk and Iiams, Booksellers- specializes in first editions of twentieth century literature, with an emphasis on women authors, African American, Native American and Latin American authors - plus mystery & detective fiction, science fiction & fantasy, poetry and children's & illustrated books. We try to offer many uncommon books, and have a large selection of first books, and books by authors who are less frequently collected. Of the approximately 60,000 volumes in stock, the majority are hardcover first editions, although we also stock vintage science fiction paperbacks as well as sf digests and pulps. We also have a large selection of books signed by the author and uncorrected proof copies. Only about 50% of our stock is catalogued, so please inquire if you are searching for specific titles. We have been selling books by mail order and on the internet since 1993. We have a large booth dedicated to books (called Books Upstairs) at the Antiques Upstairs Mall, 5 Main Street, Jackson, CA. (open every day from 10-5) The emphasis there is on Western Americana, children¿s books and inexpensive reading copies. In 1998 we relocated our main business from Sacramento to the Sierra foothills of Amador County, about 35 miles east of downtown Sacramento and between Ione & Sutter Creek. There, on 10 acres of rolling oak-covered hills, we built a "bookhouse" for our books. Call us at 209-274-6960 or contact us by email heyyou@bookfever.com) Our web page is https://bookfever.com/ Traditional bookseller grading used - fine is our highest grade (an "A"), very good is above average (a "B), good is average (a "C"). All significant flaws are described; dust jackets are protected by archival covers, and books are packed carefully for shipping. We welcome questions by email or phone.
