In this book the author, Mary Ethel Muir Donaldson (1876-1958), recounts Highland and Clan History, Traditions, Ecclesiology, Archaeology, Romance, Literature, Humour, Folk-Lore, etc. She writes in the preface that her aim is "to invite the reader to accompany me: to introduce him to Highland friends: to recreate the Highland atmosphere and, if possible, to impart to him those Celtic and Jacobite sympathies which are indispensable for a complete appreciation of the West Highlands. Chapter headings are: In the Land of Prince Charlie; The Isle of Mist; From the Castle of Eilean; Donnan to the Brochs of Glenelg; The Island of Eigg; Through Lochaber to the Country of the Macdonalds; The Country of the Stewarts; The Home of S. Columba and the Island of Staffa; The Attractions of Ardnamurchan; Places of Unique Interest out of the Beaten Track; Meanings of Place-Names. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. There is some wear to the cloth on the corner tips and at the spine ends and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with foxing to the endpapers and back of the frontispiece. The folding map at the end of the book has some mis-folding that has caused from creasing. A name has been written on the front free endpaper.
