With fifteen plates, collated and complete. Known as the Marsden poet, Laycock recorded his verse in the vernacular of the Lancashire cotton workers, as is evidenced in this volume. W. Trevor provides a biographical sketch of Laycock and describes his economic struggles after the American Civil War affected the Lancashire cotton towns in the nineteenth century. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. The inscription reads 'H. Goodwin, 1921'. In the publisher's original maroon cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the rear board, more so to the joints and the spine. Bumped and rubbed to the head and tail of the spine, with a closed tear to the head. Internally, firmly bound.
