First edition, the UK issue of this collection of thirteen Crane short stories, published the year of his death. 8vo. 198pp. Original publisher's blue cloth, lettered in gold at the spine and upper board with a blind-stamped floral decoration. With a tissue protected portrait frontispiece and thirty-three plates. Cloth a little rubbed at the head and base of the spine and lightly chafed at occasional extremities. A water stain impacts the frontis., title page, and contents and illustration index pages, but no text leaves. Binding quite tender in places with several leaves loosened but holding. A nice bright, if slightly fragile copy. No dust wrapper, probably as issued. Former owner bookplate to the front endpaper. Includes the stories 'The Angel Child', 'Lynx-Hunting', 'The Lover and the Telltale', "Showin' Off", 'Making an Orator', 'Shame', 'The Carriage-Lamps', 'The Knife', 'The Stove', 'The Trail, Execution, and Burial of Homer Phelps', 'The Fight', 'The City Urchin and the Chaste Villagers' and 'A Little Pilgrimage'.
