"He came to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955 scared, black, and proud. When he died in that plane crash on New Year's Eve 1973, he was still black and proud. His opponents were scared. Every baseball fan knows Roberto Clemente, the fabulous baseball player, winner of four batting titles, only the eleventh man in history to get 3,000 hits, he was a terror at the plate. In right field he was a madman, running to catch pop-outs behind second base, stealing home runs off the walls and throwing out runners at all bases with one of the most powerful arms ever. He was the master player, the Great One of Pittsburgh. But there was another Roberto Clemente. He never forgot his origins and worked hard to help others. He was a complex man of extraordinarily powerful emotions with an implacable pride in himself, in Puerto Rico, in the black race. He was a genius on the ball field and a great human being." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000223
