Beschreibung
(London: Philip Allan & Co., Ltd 1926). First UK Edition. RARE PALE-BLUE BOARDS. Publisher's original decorated light blue cloth, spine panel stamped in black with the bottle on the front board. Slight fading to the spine with mild foxing to the first six pages but by the time the story starts the foxing has virtually gone and remains gone. The fore-edge shows some light foxing too, but overall this copy is VG indeed with slightly soft spine tips. This copy is in light blue boards which appears to be scarcer than the identical red-boarded copy on offer elsewhere on the www (which also has the bottle to the front board). Tod Robbins was an American horror and weird mystery writer. There was no US first edition of this book. A book of short stories and as well as seven other macabre chillers such as Silent White and Beautiful it also includes the story Spurs (which first appeared in Munsey s Magazine in Feb 1923) which Tod Browning, the director, used as the basis for Freaks (1932), the legendary, unwatchable horror film which later developed a cult following in the US having been cut down from 90 minutes to an hour after terrible test screenings. The film was also banned in the UK for 32 years between 1932 and 1963. Shows well. Photographs/scans available upon request. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 355490718701
