Beschreibung
The title page, printed in red and black, gives further information by way of a lengthy sub-title: "A true account of the reasons which cause Central Europeans to overrun America which leads Russians to rush to Constantinople and other fascinating and unpleasant places which coax Greek royalty and commoners into strange byways and hedges and which induce Englishmen and Scotchmen to go out at night." And there's yet more in small print after the declaration that the book is "with illustrations from photographs": "From accurate and de-propagandized information gathered in England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Danzig, Poland, Czecho-Slovakia, Italy, Turkey and Greece in the years 1920 and 1921". Having quoted all that, what's left to say? Well, this book is the second book by Roberts and, like the first, reprints articles and essays from the Saturday Evening Post from his days as a journalist, before he turned his hand to historical novels. And while his views on immigration might be far from being liberal, they have a certain resonance when the days of the Trump attitude on the same subject are still fresh in our minds. This copy is very good. The untrimmed edges are a little dusty, there's a name and date (June 22, '22) on endpaper, together with a bookseller's label, and the spine is slightly faded with the gilt lettering a little dulled. A tight, sound copy. JS. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 001222
