Half red cloth spine over black cloth boards with bright gilt publishers device on front and gilt titling on spine. Book is tight, square and totally free of markings or flaws, inside and out. Unclipped Dust Jacket shows original price of $6.95 and shows very little scuffing or shelfwear, with just a minimal amount at top of spine. Colors on front are bright and crisp. Spine colors are slightly faded. This biography became controversial quickly after publication. Rowse claimed to have solved all but one of the problems of the sonnets, including their dates (1592-95) and the identity of the poet's unnamed rival (Christopher Marlowe). 1st/1st.
