Golden full-cloth boards, stylized bold gilt titles, sharp gold and black ornately decorated front board with black stamped spine titles and floral vignette, moderate cover, edge wear, some discoloration. Cover collage depicts Gould at center below a wizard's hand and wand releasing a cornucopia of gold, and an approaching billowing locomotive in b.g. Pages generally very good and attractively toned; few w/discoloration. Smooth dark brown endpapers, some chip. Golden brown text block at all sides. Bind good; hinges reinforced. Frontispiece painterly portrait of Gould w/facsimile signature below, and an additional seventeen dynamic pictorial plates throughout. This title presents an account of Jay Gould, the high financier who, according to author Trumball White, accumulated more wealth in a lifetime through cunning and derring-do than any other single individual prior. Trumbull White proposes much is to be gained for the student of financial affairs and the machinations of Wall Street by imitating - and also not imitating - the methods Gould employed. White also edited "Silver and Gold: or Both Sides of the Question: A Symposium of the Views of All Parties on the Currency Question" in 1895, and here he directly addresses Gould's role in the Gold Conspiracy and the Black Friday of 1869. 312 pages.
