The first edition of British civil servant and antiquarian Robert Lockhart Hobson's study of Royal Worcester porcelain, founded in 1751. Hobson was an expert in ceramics from many periods and cultures, completing two standard catalogues of the porcelain and pottery held by the British Museum.This work explores porcelain designs through the history of the Worcester porcelain company, from the Dr Wall period of 1751 to 1776 onwards. Illustrated with ninety-two plates and seventeen further tipped in brightly coloured chromolithographs. Collated, complete.With the bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. In the publisher's original cloth binding.
