Beschreibung
[very slight wear to lower extremities, modest bump to upper rear corner; original acetate jacket is present, showing moderate surface wear and apparently having shrunk so that it's about 1/4" shorter than the book at both the top and bottom edges; NOTE that we have scanned the book without its acetate jacket]. (Publication number 8) Series This was the first major monograph devoted to this San Francisco-based photographer (1902-1975), even though he'd been active as a photographer, to incrementally-increasing acclaim, since the 1930s. Although the volume presents a handful of his early works (several made obviously under the influence of Man Ray, whose work he discovered in Paris in the 1930s), the bulk of the volume is devoted to his photographs from the 1950s and the 1960s, with a brief concluding section on the 1970s, at the beginning of which, as his daughter Barbara explained in her introductory text, he was embarking on a new approach to his art, involving working with straight negative prints. Unfortunately, this late-career renewal was cut short by his death from cancer in 1976. ****NOTE that additonal postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy, oversize volume; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****.
