'An important work' (Blackmer) detailing the author's travels in 1858 in which he describes the state of the countryside and includes much political and economic commentary. Wyse was appointed Ambassador to Athens in 1849, and after the outbreak of the Crimean War, in which Greece tried to assist Russia, virtually governed Greece together with the French envoy.
