In this essay, Kristeva emphasizes the para-grammatical tendency in poetry and poetic discourse, referring to its inability to form grammatically correct sentences. In a language that refuses grammatical standards - thus ensuring meaningful communication - how can signs possibly acquire significance? The absence of grammar, Kristeva argues, is a void of possibility.
